Custom Foot Orthotics and Piriformis Syndrome

In the previous blog, we discussed piriformis syndrome: the causes, symptoms and the treatment with IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization).  One thing I wanted to discuss was how custom foot orthotics may also alleviate the pain associated with piriformis syndrome.  Remember we stated that the piriformis muscle is an external rotator of the hip.  In some cases, the tension/strain of this muscle is caused by collapse of the medial long arch of the foot.  Supporting the foot with a custom foot orthotic will decrease tension on the piriformis during active weight bearing.  This in turn will ease/reduce piriformis syndrome.

Our custom foot orthotics are produced by Shawn Eno with Xtreme Footwerks @ www.xtremefootwerks.com.

Please feel free to view our websites with more information on custom foot orthotics.
